The Castle of Calonge. Architecture and Art

Calonge and Sant Antoni City Council

“The ashlars of the walls of Calonge Castle are the privileged witnesses of more than a thousand years of history. From this strategic point, which in other times served to defend and protect the territory, today we rediscover its origins through its architecture in an extraordinary contribution to local historiography.” Josep M. Esquius i Prat

Esquius i Prat is an architect specialized in urban planning, and his professional activity is very extensive, encompassing both public and private works, drafting master plans, and numerous historical architecture restorations, one of them: the castle of Calonge.

The project of the castle of Calonge goes beyond a simple restoration; it is a historical research work. With the impetus of the Calonge and Sant Antoni City Council, the idea of making a publication was born. A book that reveals all the documentation collected in the research. A high-value volume that analyzes the architectural evolution throughout the history of this building in a didactic and rigorous way.

The book, designed and laid out by Ignasi Torras and with the Oficina 200Bis in charge of the project management, takes shape in the Agpograf graphic workshop. For printing, LED UVI technology is used in four inks on Munken Kristal paper from Unión Papelera. For the binding, a hard cover is chosen flush with the block, with a 3 mm cardboard and the spine in Icna Woods from Compte Grup that simulates wood finished with a scratched black stamping, evoking the beams installed in the castle restoration. The interior is introduced with endpapers in Popset Black from Antalis and the cover is lined with Geltex Seda Rioja from Guarro Casas, where the title and author stand out with a white stamping, and the back cover is printed in white LED UVI ink.
