Poetic Manual: How to Design a Lamp is a publication dedicated to the work of designer Jaume Ramírez, exploring the process of conceiving a lamp from a perspective that combines design, object and thought. The project was published by Marset Iluminación in collaboration with Handshake Books, an independent publishing house from Valencia specialising in publications related to visual arts and design.
The book presents lighting design as a process that goes beyond the functional resolution of the object. Through Ramírez’s project, the publication brings together ideas, references and reflections on the creation of a lamp, with an approach that draws on both the language of the manual and editorial practice. The graphic design of the publication was developed by NAM, in a project that establishes a direct relationship between the content and the format of the book.
At Agpograf Impressors, we handled the production of the manual, which consists of 212 pages printed on 60 g IBO paper using LED UV offset technology. The book is presented without a cover, with a visible thread sewn binding that leaves the structure of the volume exposed and places the manufacturing process at the forefront. The combination of lightweight paper, printing and visible thread gives the book a direct construction, consistent with the manual-like character proposed by the project.
