Since 1962, the headquarters of the Architects’ Association of Catalonia (COAC) has housed one of Barcelona’s most remarkable artistic ensembles: Picasso’s monumental frieze, conceived in collaboration with sculptor Carl Nesjar based on an architectural project by Xavier Busquets. This intervention brings art and architecture together in the city centre and pays tribute to Catalan popular culture.
Published by Altrim Publishers, Picasso at the Architects’ Association of Catalonia explores the history and significance of this mural ensemble. The book examines its cultural and artistic context, its formal and construction-related decisions, and the technical studies associated with its restoration. The publication brings together contributions by Fernando Marzá, R. Navarro-González, J. R. Rosell, J. Gómez Ramió and S. Bestraten, who offer different perspectives on the work and its conservation as part of Barcelona’s architectural heritage.
At Agpograf Impressors, we were responsible for the book’s production. It was printed in four-colour process on semi-matt coated paper, with offset paper endpapers. The hardcover, wrapped in Finesse fabric by Van Heek Textiles, features white screen printing and a card insert. The volume is finished with a flat spine and black headbands. Its binding combines different materials and finishes to create a publication dedicated to documenting and preserving artistic heritage.
