Akira Yamaguchi

Éditions de la Cerise

Akira Yamaguchi is a Japanese artist who is emerging as a leader in the avant-garde of contemporary art thanks to his unique language. He combines traditional Japanese painting techniques with contemporary motifs: airplanes, robotics, urban landscapes…

Filled with detail and movement, Yamaguchi’s work invites us to reflect on globalization and progress with a touch of humor and satire. A space-time journey where we encounter motorcycle-horses and samurais having tea.

The artist’s new book, “Chroniques d’un Japon merveilleux”, highlights his work accompanied by texts by Franck Manguin in French and Japanese. Guillaume Trouillard is responsible for the artistic direction, and it is published by Éditions de la Cerise.

The catalog presents an ambitious approach in terms of printing and binding due to its special finishes, making it an exhibition object. It includes a sliding cover in Arena White Smooth from Fedrigoni Paper with a die-cut revealing the silk-screened panels of the cover, adding movement to the design. The endpapers and interior in Munken Pure by Arctic Paper are printed in conventional offset with a copper metallic Pantone ink. Inside, we find a section of turquoise pages in Remake Sky by Favini and fold-out pages offering great breadth. The book is bound with open stitching.
